Greenway eBike Rentals FAQ
Pick-up is determined by your trail and attraction choice or your vacation rental. Pick-up is often at The Brevard Greenway Trailhead (Estatoe Trail) which is the Brevard Railroad Depot, or Public Parking spots in The Pisgah National Forest, and along the French Broad Greenway (Craven Street Access Parking Lot or The Radical Hotel in River Arts District.
We'll communicate with you at the time of your reservation.
If you are riding in the Pisgah National Forest, know that the trails we are showing are the only one's approved. Since cell coverage can be spotty, we often arrange to meet near the entrance of the Pisgah National Forest such as Lowe's.
Not at all! Our eBikes are easy to use and great for all experience levels. We'll give you a quick demo before your ride and make sure you're totally comfortable.
Battery range depends on your assist level, but most riders can enjoy up to 30 miles of range on a full charge to be conservate. This range is also based on body weight, how much assist-level and incline you are riding. We offer half-day and full-day rentals to match your plans.
A Note on E-Bike Operation
To ensure a safe and successful ascent, please be aware that these e-bikes are designed as pedal-assist vehicles. The motor is intended to amplify your own pedaling power rather than replace it.
While the range of these bikes exceed 30 miles (based on weight, how you are using the throttle, we recommend planning to ride less than 16-20 miles.)
Important: The bike cannot carry a rider on throttle power alone, especially during steep sections of a climb. To engage the motor and maintain momentum, you must continue to pedal. Relying solely on the throttle can lead to motor overheating or rapid battery depletion, potentially leaving you without assistance for the return leg of your journey.
We recommend bringing water, sunscreen, and comfortable clothing. Helmets are included with your rental, and you're welcome to bring your own if you prefer.
For our higher-elevation Pisgah National Forest routes on Road 475 and 475-B, the weather can be significantly cooler and more unpredictable than in town. Especially in early Spring - April and May. Check the weather and plan accordingly if the weather is on the cooler side.
This is because you will be climbing under physical effort and then descending in the wind, layering is essential for comfort and safety. For early Spring, consider:
-
Base Layer: Wear a moisture-wicking synthetic or Merino wool top. Avoid cotton, as it traps sweat and will make you feel chilled during the descent or if you stop to view "Little Yosemite."
-
Mid-Layer: A lightweight fleece or a long-sleeve cycling jersey. This traps heat while allowing moisture to escape during your climb.
-
Outer Shell: A packable, windproof and water-resistant jacket. Even on a sunny day, the wind at higher elevations near Highway 276 can be sharp.
-
Gloves & Headgear (we provide helment): Full-fingered cycling gloves are recommended for better grip and warmth. A thin "buff" or neck gaiter can be easily stowed but provides immense comfort if the temperature drops.
Essential Gear
-
Hydration: Bring at least 1.5 to 2 liters of water. While the road follows a stream, you should never drink unfiltered forest water.
-
Navigation: Cell service is unreliable in this corridor. Download an offline map (like Avenza or Trailforks) before you leave the Johns Rock parking lot.
-
Emergency Kit: Let us know if you want to take a basic first-aid kit, a multi-tool for the bike, and a high-decibel whistle.

You can ride on any trails in our Trails and Attractions page. In general, you can ride on any road inside the Pisgah National Forest that is also approved for motorized vehicle use. When encountering city sidewalks, walking alongside Ebike or parking and locking the eBike at bike stall while touring the town is necessary.
We can provide a lock at the time of rental if you wish.
